 Explore with Bea...

Hiya,

I’ve just had the most incredible overnight experience aboard the Ultramarine, Quark Expeditions' luxury expedition ship and I can’t wait to tell you all about it.

But first of all who are Quark Expeditions? In short, they have been ‘Polar Obsessed since 1991’ this pioneering company were the first to take commercial passengers to the North Pole and since then have been offering immersive expeditions to the Artic and Antarctic. And if travelling to some of the most remote corner of the world is on your bucket list then this company is for you. Whether it’s cruising past icebergs, spotting wildlife such as polar bears, and penguins or experience cultures up close then Quark can take you on this trip.

When you book with Quark Expeditions, you're not just getting a cruise—you're getting a unique experience. Their team of experts, from naturalists to expedition leaders, are passionate about teaching you all about the regions you’re exploring. There’s something magical about having the chance to learn from people who have dedicated their lives to exploring the world’s most remote places. And if you want to explore the wildest parts of the world in a luxury, comfort and Style then Quark Expeditions have that covered.

The Ultramarine is not your average cruise ship. It’s an expedition vessel designed for the most epic explorations of some of the world’s most remote, awe-inspiring locations—think the polar regions and beyond. And with Quark Expeditions at the helm, you're in for an experience that mixes luxury with the wildest adventures.

From the moment you step on board, it’s clear that this ship is a step above the rest. The Ultramarine offers a more intimate, upscale experience without sacrificing the thrill of adventure. With spacious, modern cabins and stunning panoramic views, the luxury is immediate.

I was lucky enough to get a balcony suite on board for the night which is like your personal haven at sea, designed for comfort and luxury which will give you stunning views of the wild landscapes you're cruising through. Imagine stepping out onto your own private balcony, where you can soak in the fresh air and watch icebergs, wildlife, or breathtaking coastlines pass by.

Inside, the suite is spacious and modern, with big windows that let in tons of natural light. The décor is clean and stylish, with a cozy vibe that makes it easy to unwind after a day of adventures. It’s got all the top-notch amenities you’d expect, from plush bedding to a sleek bathroom, plus plenty of space to stretch out and relax. It’s basically the perfect spot to kick back in comfort, all while feeling connected to the rugged, untamed beauty of the polar regions.

One of the coolest things about the Ultramarine is its ability to offer heli-landing excursions. They have two on-board helicopters, in which gives guests the chance to explore places that would normally be completely inaccessible. Whether it’s an untouched glacier or a remote wildlife spot, you get to experience the most pristine, untouched corners of the planet. Definitely a huge USP for Quark!

If the helicopters and Zodiacs aren’t for you ( yes they have them both) there are tons of activities to keep you busy onboard. The ship has lots of onboard gear for kayaking and paddleboarding. They also have a science lab on board where you can learn about the fascinating research in which the Quarks expedition leaders do in some of the most extreme climates in the world.

Let’s not forget about the food, the dining options are great and it plays a large part of what Quark Expeditions are about, they offer a variety of options to suit all different preferences and schedules ( it’s not uncommon to be interpreted at lunch or dinner to go out and spot the wildlife). Balena Restaurant serves as the main restaurant, where breakfast and lunch is served buffet style with a selection of hot stations. Where dinner is an international four course plated affair. The restaurant is designed to accommodate all guests and the expedition team at once and offers large windows ensuring every seat offers the view of the polar scenery.

Casual dining can be found at Bistro 487, where extended hours for breakfast, lunch and dinner are offered to cater around those varying schedules. The style is quicker food, and ‘ grab and go’ staples so guests can head back outdoors on the aft deck to take in the breathtaking scenery.

Quark takes eco-friendly travel to the next level, ensuring minimal environmental impact while offering guest an incredible journey, the Ultramarines state of the art systems reduce the ships carbon footprint while cruising through delicate areas like the Artic and Antarctica.

So, whether you’re an adventurer at heart or just love exploring new travel possibilities Quark Expeditions is for you.

I would love to help you tick another bucket list adventure off that list of yours.

For the longest time, South Africa has been on my bucket list. After hearing stories from my mum about her visit there when she was 18, I knew that one day I needed to go and explore it for myself. Fast forward to a few months ago when Helen received a phone call from Premier Holidays offering me a place on their South Africa Fam trip... safe to say there were tears of joy from myself and Helen. September quickly rolled around and there I was heading down to London Heathrow to meet Nicky (Premier Holidays) and the rest of the group and what an incredible group we had.

I flew out from Leeds Bradford on Thursday 5th October to Porto and stayed at the HF Tuela Porto, which was near the pick up points for the conference. The hotel was only 15 minutes walk away from the outskirts of the bustling centre, the sun was shining so I set off to explore for a few hours. After I’d spent some time wandering around and enjoying a chilled glass of Vinho Verde, the local wine, I sat by the river side and had a bite to eat. Watching the trams pass me by with the sun setting over the Douro river, I reminded myself of how lucky I am to be able to experience beautiful places.

This year my Husband Nick turned 60, and as part of his birthday celebrations we went to one of our favourite places, Kassiopi in Corfu. We have visited Kassiopi a few times now and we couldn’t wait to get back, visit some amazing places and of course see one of my best friends Lucy and her family, she has lived there for 17 years! Over our 3 week stay, more than 40 of our closet friends and families joined us – and they all had the same opinion- they loved this place – Kassiopi and Corfu.

We like to make life as easy as possible on travel day so often we book a hotel the night before. We stayed at Ryland Farmhouse, about 5 miles from Manchester Airport which was perfectly adequate for the night and had the full English breakfast it was one of the best I’ve ever had!
